TROUBLE/PLEASE FORGIVE ME

a coupla summers back, ali & brooke saw emmylou perform at a casino in council bluffs. mercifully, ali called and let me listen in to a couple of the songs through the magic of cell phones. now, now, i can admit to just as much jealously when reporting that david gray/ray lamontagne will be performing together at this place august 29th, but it'd be a crying shame if you didn't seize the opportunity to hear some of those sad, sad ray songs. and with david gray, well, close your eyes or his head bobbing might make ya loco!

(ps: don't forget to call me when the band starts up on "trouble" or "empty")

Thinking of You All

Dear crazy ladies,
I am thinking of you night owl riders as you are about to set out in 5 minutes for the first annual Omaha Owl Ride. Nate and I saw some of the course marked this evening as we ran an errand. We are so disappointed to not be in the line-up with you this very second as I stand here and I type. Then again, it is still 87 degrees out right now with 83% humidity. Maybe we aren't THAT disappointed. He he.

Please Please tell me all about the adventure as soon as you climb out of bed tomorrow afternoon or early evening :-)

a friend emailed me this link to hipster christianity with the delicate suggestion that it "reminds me of you." i laughed, i cried, i'm such a cliche. i even have the over the rhine poster. here's the thing, whocares. it reminds me of YOU.

and i thought our particular blend of crafty-vintage-bookish-foodie-homespun-moody-retro-granola-goodness was unique. too late to trademark ourselves, i guess.

reunion

last summer i had to distract myself for an entire weekend so i wouldn't feel so extra down. jay was gone for the weekend and my furthest/dearest friends were celebrating a WHOCARES WEEKEND in omaha. i sat at home and wrote this post and felt sorry for myself for a bit.

(cue energizing music. "the final countdown"? "eye of the tiger"?)

WIPE YOUR CRYIN' EYES, CARON!! IN LESS THAN FOUR SHORT WEEKS...REUNITE! IGNITE! CELEBRATE! TALK LATE INTO THE NIGHT! NO TIME CONSTRAINTS! NO "well, i should probably go". NO FRUSTRATING HOME DETAILS FOR YA'LL TO WORRY ABOUT. NO NOTHING OF A HASSLE (though, isn't it sad there won't be coconut macaroons?).

i just had to say it...i'm sorta hangin' on for this reunion. i'm saving a large portion of my sanity for that weekend to reconnect, goof, dive into the thick of life together. ain't no sistas like you sistas.

and also: who's gonna do some talents?! blanche? rose? dorothy?

What does it all mean?

It means that before time, God knew that our whocares get-away-weekend would rescue me from my 15 year reunion. I've always been deeply deeply grateful for the "hand-of-fate" that has brought us all together, and now I have one more reason to be grateful for our time together. Oh what a friend I have in Jesus, and in you all. No turning back, no turning back. :-)

just when I'd forgotten to appreciate nature, my sister sends me this. watch it through to the end, you won't regret it. all i know is, i want some of what he's having.

i read thekitchn everyday. this picture was attached to a post titled, "dream big: where would you like to escape for breakfast?". my first thought: THERE! THAT PLACE!
