In Dixieland where I was(n't) born, early on one frosty morn
so columbia got seven inches of snow this weekend. it's fun to watch local people try to negotiate this very foreign substance. on friday night, i drove past the fire station, where a few firemen were building a snow man. and yesterday two little boys had a snow ball fight on my apartment lawn, and they very civilly took turns pelting one another. i wanted to yell down to them that there are no turns in snow ball fights, and you don't have to wait to get pelted like that, but it was more fun to watch them try to figure it out. i've been enjoying it. not likely to happen again any time soon.

another sign and scent of summer...
okay, so these are old navy flip flops, but today, when walking through target, i discovered that the shoe section is chock-full of cheap flip flops in a rainbow of colors. the sight alone was cheering. but the smell. well, friends. the smell of freshly-made cheap rubber flip flops was a smell of summer. someday, it'll be here.

dead or alive.

caron, me, and our sister in law caitlyn, killing it. this particular song was bon jovi's dead or alive.
caron said she wouldn't like rock band.
i said she would.
and she did.
let this be a lesson: sometimes your friends know you better than you know yourself.
can you imagine a whocares rockband fest?? oh man.
tell that swamp to stop breathing on me

so i'm doing research on swamps so that i can historicize my dissertation (wah, wah, wah), but the interesting part is that before science figured out that malaria (which literally means "bad air") gets transmitted by mosquitoes, people believed it was the result of "the literal exhalations of the swamp" (wilson xii).

We're gonna make it girls!
In a mere 2 or 2.5 weeks, we will be at 11 hours of daylight a day... 7am to 6pm... I mean, this blasted winter isn't going to win after all!

Hi, I'm Rachel
Allow me to introduce myself in a non-boozy-spring-break way!
I feel a bit awkward jumping into this sisterhood, but feel like I know you a bit from enjoying this blog...and from the juicy stories Caron loves to tell!
My personal blog is myworldentire.blogspot.com, and is probably as good of an introduction as any. Looking forward to meeting you illustrious women sometime soon...
