Romancing the blockbuster aisle

Last night I watched "The Proposal" alone while Caleb went to a bar to view the first game of the World Series. Don't tell him I said this, but I'll admit he had a better thing going with the Yankees and Phillies than I did with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds.

I love a no-brainer get happy romantic comedy sometimes -- but Caleb absolutely refuses to watch them with me. I guess I can't blame him, they're usually terrible. Can you ladies help me? Any suggestions out there for a not toooo romantic comedy that won't make him (or me) gag?

This might be of particular interest to some of our members who are list-keepers (I am one.) I know there are several of you out there!

mad men

do you watch "mad men"? we started the series a few weeks ago and kept going because the developing story was so rich. it seemed that all the smoke & booze & woman-get-this-for-me was just a fog-machine for rich story, complex characters, & the search for meaning.

mad men, "shoot". if you only make it through three DVD discs of this series, make it to episode 9. betty draper tries modeling again. do you know this episode? i cried during the entire episode. the writers of this series were so careful with such delicate issues. oh my. i know why the caged bird sings. the episode ends with betty in her bathrobe in the backyard, smoking, & shooting at pigeons.

Let the October Breakfast Bonanza Continue!

Come on over to my place to celebrate Ali's visit to Omaha next Friday, October 30.  Come on over any time after 8:30.  I'll probably attempt another quiche. Feel free to bring whatever you feel like, as always.

Let the good times roll!

A common problem

I know having enough shelving to store our books is a common problem among the whocarsians.
Thought this idea might come in handy.
I know, I know... you are so welcome. Don't mention it. There are tons more great ideas where that came from!

myers-briggs mamas

here's one more fix for the myers-briggs fans in the group (i think that's all of us, right?). it's an article about what your myers-briggs profile means for your mothering style. the good news is, there's no guilt here - each profile is described for it's strengths and includes one idea for staying sane and balanced. nice.

won't you be my sunshine always

i'm still reveling in the best wednesday i've had in years. oh what great friendship! don't make me go! it's 3 a.m. and although i'm plenty irked to be wide awake, it's something of a treat to enjoy the first snowfall of the year before anyone else.

i have a few things on my mind. cathy & i watched "baby mama" last night and i could help linger on the saturday evening "i'm a monster" conversation. so, i post this:

i have learned to keep an eye out for the unexpected this week. my parents took us out to old country buffet last night. i was expecting yuk; i received yum!! unlimited bacos, iced tea, teriyaki chicken & shrimp?!!

i leave omaha really tired, but also super full up on love, inspiration, possibilities, better understanding of processing things, challenged, motivated, and grateful. thanks for the good talks. don't it always seem to go...ya don't know what ya got 'til it's gone?! stay warm!

Who's In?!

So, Caron reminded me that Jolie Holland is playing at the Waiting Room on Sunday at 9pm.  Anyone want to go with me?  I know it's late and it's a school night...but let's be rebels together and live on the edge!

Apparition

She floated past me yesterday morning at church, amidst her brood of cousins, oblivious to the twinge of joy it gave my heart to catch a glimpse of her little profile. It was like the feeling you get when you notice the tiny fleck of a yellow crocus springing to life under dead leaves and snow in March... like something exciting is finally here.

I'm looking forward to breakfast with you Caron. See you in a few days.
