Worth the Trip downtown

Well ladies, this might scratch your 'need-for-inspiration-itch" if you have one right now. Nate and I are going to hear the lecture tonight and see the show. Hatch is serious American Design Iconography. To this day, they don't change their fonts, they don't change the pressure on their presses, they don't change the way they print... you go to them because you want your stuff to look like Hatch did it, and hopefully add your event to the legacy of the posters and history they have made.

Anyway, a piece of Americana is in town. Thought you might wanna know.
*The exhibit is sponsored by the Smithsonian, hosted at the Durham, and here until January.

Super interested in visiting the exhibit. Hope the lecture is great for you! I think there is a kids letterpress class in Jan. I was interested in signing L. up for. I'll let you know when I find out more.

P.S. Speaking of the Durham. I'm sorry to everyone that I didn't ever organize a bus tour... I dropped the ball. Next year, right?

Oh my goodness! I will refrain from filling this comment section with a mountain of commentary, but I LOVED IT! jim Sherraden (name is on the poster/image) was the one speaking and he was an English/history/art major in college, wrote some song lyrics for a band in the 70's and ended up in Nashville trying to write music. Someone took him to see Hatch Show Print's studio, he fell in love with the history/art/music of the place and has been there ever since... now he's their chief proprietor and preservationist. He was trained by the last typesetter (who passed away in 2000) and the only technology they have in the shop that isn't original is a fax... no cell phones, no computers, nada. An old soul. The lecture was awesome. The show is totally worth seeing.

P.S. there is a BEAUTIFUL poster they did for Emmylou Harris, in the display, at the Durham :-)
