do you watch "mad men"? we started the series a few weeks ago and kept going because the developing story was so rich. it seemed that all the smoke & booze & woman-get-this-for-me was just a fog-machine for rich story, complex characters, & the search for meaning.
mad men, "shoot". if you only make it through three DVD discs of this series, make it to episode 9. betty draper tries modeling again. do you know this episode? i cried during the entire episode. the writers of this series were so careful with such delicate issues. oh my. i know why the caged bird sings. the episode ends with betty in her bathrobe in the backyard, smoking, & shooting at pigeons.

i watch "mad men"! just got through season 2 when i realized that you can get season 3 on itunes. mm. joan is my favorite. i think it can be depressing, and after each episode, i have a few minutes of silent gratitude for the work of feminism. but i love it.
meant to say, too, that you're right about that episode. pretty great. betty, get your gun!
betty. is. awesome. i can hardly think of a better scene--in any show i've seen lately--than the one you refer to, with the smoking and the shooting of pigeons in her front yard.
here's an interesting article about betty that i came across last night. it's worth a read, i think:

i freaking LOVE Mad Men. it's the cherry on my dessert of a sunday. YUM YUM YUM. it breaks my heart & fascinates me & is a guilty pleasure all at once. michael & i find ourselves after each episode more thankful for each other & the good relationship/communication we have. whew!
we are all 'caught up' now, so for those of you watching on DVD or online, if you thought Betty shooting a gun was great - and if you're fed up with Don's antics - then WATCH LAST NIGHT'S episode! it was fantastic! Don as you've never seen him before. haha.
michael & i took a quiz - 'which Mad Men character are you?' which we know is totally accurate. ;) i was Joan (?!) and he was Roger. heh. a match made in...???
i would love this image of Betty on a t-shirt. :)
caron, that episode you mention is the only full episode i've ever seen, and i did love it. the end was brilliant. sounds from all of your comments that the whole show is brilliant.
at least five people have recommended i watch the show but i've never seen an episode. this post has finally lured me in. i'm trying it. i love that photo and feel like i already love joan.
cry cry cry. oh, i love that episode. and ps: she wasn't trying to kill the bird, just scare them away.
and yeah, i definitely think "mad men" is SO much worth the time than a series we tried out, "the wire".
loads of my non-whocarsian friends have watched, loved and recommended this show. Now all of you are in on it too. I'm with Daphne, never seen and episode, but you ladies make it awfully enticing!
rent them DVDs at Blockbuster for $1! (that's what we did.)
ps: it's "shoot" episode, not "indian summer". you can watch the episodes (78 minutes/day) on madmedepisodes.com (or something like that)
i 100% absolutely heart mad men. i agree with ali - i love joan. the most. i agree with lindsay - its the cherry on my sunday evenings and my guilty pleasure. its awesome. watch it.
