XXX [thirty]

my heart sort of races every time i think about my 30th birthday...but not really the actual day, but the night that i'm celebrating with dear, dear friends---saturday night fever, baby!  i can't wait to see your faces, hug, cackle, celebrate!  i miss friendship so dear.

when i think about it, i become a librarian, shuffling through my dewey decimal cards of memories we've had together:

***that 25th birthday of mine at mark's.  anne marie was in town from prague.  darby was with us for a bit, stealing away to fetch andrew (first date?) from the airport.  daphne was giggly and goofy.  kate was there (wasn't that the year of her 1,000,000 birthday celebrations?) and saw some fellow doctors and they donated a generous amount of wine to our cause.  darci, you were there too!  it was one of the warmest nights in my heart.

***darby's crazy going away party.  who could forget?!  who could...recall...the long evening of great eats & great laughs, poetry, music, memories.  aaah.  glad you're "home", darby.

***hanging in the nook at the brazenhead.  before the ban.  a handful of evenings there that will always be in the hall of fame.

anyhow, i can't wait.  i can't wait.  i can't wait.  mostly i can't wait to see this again:

Mrs. Butterworth & Peach Schnatts

Another great memory of torturing our roomy at the 'ville with purple horns on the saintly Mrs. Butterworth and playing along with the peach "schnatts" for WAY too long. Good memories!

the Omaha Craft Mafia

Nate has been helping me build a website for the Mafia in our spare time (ha ha ha ha ha) and we finally have it up and running this week. There is no real reason to tell you guys, other than I am kind of proud of the way it came together in its' simplicity, and wanted to show you all. (Click here or on the post title)

Happy Friday ladies and I hope to see lots of you at the Crowded House tomorrow!

Scribbles: the best coloring book ever

I recently purchased this for my kids and it has been such a hit (even for my "I don't like coloring" son). It is different from regular coloring books because it has kiddos add to the drawings, allowing them to use a bit more creativity than your run-of-the-mill coloring books. I scan the pages and print out copies so we can use them over and over. Worth the money and a great activity for winter.

it's beginning to look a lot like christmas

well, in south carolina, it looks more like fall than christmas. but if waited until it looked like christmas in south carolina, well, i'd wait a long time. anyway, i found this cd on itunes today. perhaps some would scoff that it has jack johnson, but i likes it. it also has mason jennings and rogue wave. i imagine a few cuts will show up on my forthcoming christmas 2008 cd. man, oh man. i do love the holidays. i can't wait to see you all and bask in the good times. i only have to write about 50 pages of research papers and grade 413 pages of student papers. and then i'm headed home!

heading up to chicago this weekend to romp around in the rain. and we're stopping at ikea on the way out. so! if you have an order, place it with me. i'll bring you a slice of that blue/yellow furnitureland november 25th. i'll have no kids with me & ample time to gather your requests. pay me one hug at the time of delivery.

family

my little gal annabelle loves to pull her socks up high. yesterday, after getting dressed & emerging from her bedroom with a smile on her face, violet said, "hey! those look like boots!".

when i took this picture of henry, it reminded me of watching isaac when he was little. he had short blonde hair that was fun to mess with, just like henry does.always goofing.jay burning leaves.

!

i have grown weary of politics...so when the voting sites are finally closed, i will kiss them goodbye with glee.  it makes me uneasy to sense fear in the christian community.  god is sovereign.  it makes me crabby to hear the blah-blah-blah spin of radio/tv talk hosts as they twist every little sound byte to slant angles at their whimsy.  GOD is sovereign.  HE appoints the rulers of nations.  now, get out & vote & get this tremendous privilege done & over with.  !
