baby neher is here!

baby neher is still unnamed, they're wavering between two names. clive thomas or "ct" is his name!

he arrived at 1:15 pm this afternoon. he was born c-section after all.

juls is doing well and so is he. he's a big healthy baby -- 10 lbs! i'll bet juls is glad she didnt have to push that many pounds out. by the way, i was a 10 lb, 5.5 oz baby. my mom always includes the 5.5 oz whenever she tells anyone. i think at that point of big even the fractions of ounces count. so sorry i dont know the exact ounces of baby neher. daddy didn't say.

they're at unmc by the way. visiting hours end at 8 (but they're resting until 6).

frozen meals are welcome, so let darby know if you're interested. she's the food coordinator. :)

YEAH!!!!!!!!!! i can't wait to meet the munchkin. i mean big boy.

baby neher update

we are going to have another who cares baby today!!!matt and julie went to the hospital around 4.30 this morn.

labor is progressing slowly and because of that, they may need to do another c-section delivery. but they're still holding out hope that they won't have to. please pray for julie!!

Rethinking becoming a vegan.

Last night at dinner as we sat down to a meal centered around a roast chicken my 2-year-old excitedly blurts out: "Daddy, mommy died (killed) a chicken!"

rock the vote

i'm thinking of going over to the voting commission and casting my ballot early. like, this afternoon.

although i love the momentum of election day, standing in line and chatting with my neighbors, casting my vote, getting the "i voted today" sticker, and running home to watch the coverage, i'm having trouble picturing that scenario with a wiggling twenty-five pound one-year-old on my hip. so i'm going to skip the crowds and vote early.

any of you obama mamas or mccain mamas want to come? we could queue to the ballot box together. the election commission is at 114th and dodge and is open all day. post if you want to meet around 3 or so...

tasty wheats

in honor of the immanent arrival of baby neher (we hope the arrival is immanent, anyway), i'm organizing a little meal schedule so the family doesn't have to cook when they should be cuddling the new baby and/or sleeping. if you're interested in taking them supper in the week or so after the baby's born, let me know! thank ya very much.

What I'm running to now...

The entire soundtrack is great - but this is particularly good. If you like it watch the three minute version posted below.

homage to meg white

i was on ray lamontagne's myspace today--so much new music this month!--and heard his tribute song to meg white. you all should check it out if you haven't heard it already. it made me glad, glad. about time someone said so. i think more famous people should pay public tribute to one another. you can click on the title for a link to his myspace, where you can hear the song. and be glad.

on the new jolie holland

i like this album but the production seems to mess up the songs.  her voice is better now than ever.  try this clip filmed in her her apartment (song "mexico city").  the music video is pretty cool, too (see sam parton in the background).

for a few of you special ladies

you guys know who you are...

Just a reminder...

I will be looking for you ladies bright (or dark rather) and early tomorrow morning... should be a cozy, autumnal atmosphere here at the Perry home as you come in from the dark and cold fall morning rain. See you soon!!!

you know you love a deal...

i just heard this report on npr about saving money with coupons, and man, i was inspired. our family budget necessitates that we spend sparingly in the first two weeks of each month, and keeping our food costs under control is a stretch. now i have a plan for getting it done. npr reporter yuki noguchi interviewed a coupon genius, erin gifford, who runs her own (really helpful) coupon blog, coupon cravings.

pain in the neck

so, have you used one of these pillows?  jay has one & it really has helped all sorts of neck weirdness he was having.  i have tried it over the past 2 nights...and now my neck feels wacky, my leg is sorta tingly on & off, and my lower back is sore.  i play over ideas that i have a pinched nerve in my lower back or that i've run too many miles in the past few months....but....this weirdness started when jay let me borrow his pillow.

any testimonials out there?  help!

Expeditiously Reporting the Weather...

As I drove to preschool to pick Isaac up this morning, listening to KVNO and drinking a latte, the woman announcing made a small foible while reporting the weather update. She quickly covered her tracks by adding that KVNO prides itself in expeditiously reporting the weather, to which I laughed out-loud to myself in the car... good comedic timing. Then I listened more closely because it dawned on me that 'I know that voice'! Sure enough, Darci, you did a great job on-the-air today. I wish you announced more often :-)

you literary types: help a girl out!

I joined Paperback Swap today, and can't decide what book to get first! It's driving me nuts - I'm a little giddy over it and I can't make a decision. So lend me your expertise. I want to 'catch up' on some good fiction - the standards that I never read for whatever reason. Here's what I've narrowed it down to...which one do you think I should read first?

- The Great Gatsby (Fitzgerald)
- A Farewell To Arms (Hemingway)
- Wise Blood (O'Connor)
- The Old Man & The Sea (Hemingway)
- Love In The Time of Cholera (Marquez)

I'm also taking suggestions on other titles you think everyone should read. Bring it on!

PS - all this reading has got me thinking about changing my major (yeah, the one I never finished, ugh)....from graphic design to either Creative Nonfiction (writer's workshop, UNO) or English with a Creative Writing emphasis (Creighton). Any thoughts? Inspire me!

I suppose meeting a calligraphy celebrity is a bit like meeting a ping pong celebrity.

Not very exciting for anyone else but the niche enthusiasts. Nonetheless, posted here is yours truly receiving instruction last week from Sheila Waters. It was a wonderful week for many reasons-- focused instruction, hours of practice time, inspiring work of other lettering artists and someone else feeding me dinner every night (and I didn't even have to clean up after myself!)

update

i finally updated the links section.  if there are any that i've left out, please let me know.  it's taken forever--sorry.

goof.

we were in omaha for a friend's wedding. my girls were flower girls. one of them was in a "hide-under-mommy's-skirt" phase. that one keeps me on my toes! ENLARGE for a better view.

(at least this happened to our long-time friend & the girl's only babysitter, carin).

Breakfast in October

I haven't talked with Darby, but since all of her best efforts have seemingly been sabotaged by demanding schedules, I thought I would try one more time to get us together this month.

Wed. October 15th

Breakfast at the Perry's

the bard, the muse, the ramblin' gal

you heard it here first, folks.

she's about to peak.

she's turning thirty.

in fact, as rockettes high-kick and giant balloons float above manhattan on thanksgiving day, she will turn the corner on her third decade.

best of all, she's turning thirty, on thanksgiving day, IN OMAHA.

this calls for a party, no?

it will probably be an early morning party, perhaps the saturday morning following thanksgiving. or, if there's another time that works well for everyone, we will negotiate that as needed. so please post your general availability for thanksgiving weekend and stay tuned for more info.

in the spirit of last night's debate...

to be read in a sarah palen voice:

in the crazy way things have, also, of going down around our house and i know the houses of others in the group also, i must inform the members of the whocares group that although i tried to gather friends to gather for a six pack of beers tonight, i am myself sadly unable to attend. i urge you, my fellow mavericks, to fulfill your mission of meeting in a pub, among your average american hockey moms and joe six-packs, despite the fact that i, also, will not be able to be enjoying your company although i would count it an honor to spend time with you also. several of you, however, indicated your interest in meeting, and i would talk to you straight because the american people are craving for straight talk: accomplish the mission. you must sit at your kitchen tables and determine a time and a place that best affects the needs of those interested parties who may be interested.

Julie's Baby Shower

juls shower

we had such a good time on saturday for julie's baby shower. wish you all could have been there. julie was a beautiful, glowing mother-to-be. it was so fun to celebrate this new one that is coming sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon!!!

one of julie's craft mafia friends, tonya k poor, took the pics i posted here. she was gracious to share with us. check out tonya's sites here and here. she specializes in children's photography and is looking for some kids to snap.

what about me guys?

since this picture was begging to be posted [or was that the girl in the picture?], here it is. tucking away her savings in her undergarments. must have been listening to a lot of conservative talk radio.
