friday moring food

don't plan anything for friday morning, june 1st. see blog on monday night for more details from cheryl.

Ummm... no.

Yesterday at the library Linus found his way to the current periodicals. He lifted up an issue of Cosmo (or the like, I forget which one) with a picture of a gal in a VERY, VERY skimpy bathing suit and said "Look! A book about mommies."

Hey, What's Going Up Dad?

This is from this morning. Our little one cracks himself up... good that an only child can entertain himself. I also put another funny clip of him on my own blog a few days ago. Can't believe he is 2 1/2.

one time

one time cheryl treated annabelle to a little cooking class for kids that was being held ar whole foods--smoothies. so they blended bananas & blueberries & yogurt. it was memorable. vi was a little baby then. so two days ago we were in target & walked past the blenders & annabelle says, "mom, remember they had those things at the cooking class that cheryl & liney were at?" that is a fine-tuned memory!!

we miss them old days.
(was going to post this on wcc, but what to label? "i love cheryl?"

One more thing for your summer calendar.

I would love it if ya'll would stop by... consider yourselves all invited :-)

it fell right off.

yesterday morning i walked out the back door to put some recycleables in the bin, and as i turned the corner of the stairs... i found this on the ground.

our gutter fell right off. taking some house with it. now our back door looks like this. missing a chunk.

sometimes i forget that our house is the same age as my grandma lorraine... and that a lot of things have not been replaced or updated in awhile. i wish my house was as healthy as my grandma. i guess that just goes to show you that God is a better builder than man.

stereotypical, i know. the whole love of irony. oh well.

never woulda thought

justin, finn and i went to ted and wally's for a mother's day treat yesterday... one of the worker's commented on my shirt, and asked where i got it... i said, as i tried to remember (it's really justin's) "uh... yeah, urban outfitters, a couple years ago..." and he walked away.. came back and said, "did you know we are getting an urban outfitters here?" so when i woke up this morning, i thought i'd investigate to see if this was true... and sure enough i ran across this article, which also noted that Blue Line Coffee will also be opening up in the same complex...

this is great for downtown omaha... maybe H&M or anthropologie will move in soon... here's hopin'.

The van, in all of its glory.

who cares summer calendar

i hear through various sources that several outta town whocaresians will be visiting omaha at some point this summer. can we get some schedules? if everyone is around at the same time, it seems only logical that an indian food party and/or ol' times breakfast would be in order. please insert your omaha travel dates in the comment box. thank you.

Celebration

As we all know, we have a genius among us and this Saturday she'll be throwing her cap up in the air for the third time in her life.
Our dear friend Ali will be graduating with her masters degree and has been accepted to an amazing Ph.D. program in South Carolina. While the graduation ceremony is actually this weekend, we are planning a GRADUATION CELEBRATION for June 9th at the (Bailey-)Fowler's place. More details will come soon but I wanted you all to set that date aside and join us in celebrating Ali's achievements.

evoke

listening to the innocence mission has always led my feelings in a particular way. some sort of strange hope. i bet you can say the same thing.

read renae's post about this band. finally someone puts a finger on it.

i promise you'll be happy if you watch this

weekend get-away

with joy and sadness i make it official that the weekend of august 17th, 18th and 19th will be our "official" time reserved at brown street inn. (you will be missed Ali, but hopefully there in spirit and by phone!) Just re-posting the dates so ya'll can plan and there will be no confusion.

cinco de mayo

i have celebrated cinco de mayo twice already. kate came down on thursday night & we said a few phrases in spanish to one another & enjoyed some tasty cuisine at los agaves. then, on friday, i went to a cinco do mayo playdate at wendy's house. she's canadian. i really like her. man, those canadians! i've been listening to "the buena vista social club" all morning & remembering old celebrations i attended in omaha.

last night jason & i were talking. he said, "caron, it's kind of funny that you celebrate cinco de mayo. it's like st. patrick's day...just an excuse for most people to party." my rebuttal: well, i'm not a partier. i can speak spanish. i like mexican food. pinatas are fun. umm. umm.

all the same, hope you're having a fun day on the fifth of may.

What I want to expose my daughter to.

My friend, Brooke, and I went to The Wailin' Jennys concert last night at the Holland's new little venue 1200 Club*. We were treated to a phenomenal performance. Brooke made a great point that it was so nice to see three talented women doing what they love on stage-- no sex appeal, no flashy outfits or gyrating hips-- just pure talent. She mentioned to me that I should take Ada to lots of things like this and I thought-- YES! That is what I'm going to do-- as Ada grows up I'm going to take her to as many shows, art exhibits, lectures as possible featuring real-- not plastic-- women showcasing who God made them to be.

*as a side note the Holland was trying to make this 1200 Club a 30something club-like atomosphere-- you know, really hip and all. Ok, the tickets were $30 a piece, all the drinks were served in plastic cups, I got a big angry stare from a "club-goer" in front of me for whispering in between songs, it was mostly people over 55 and like a good Omaha concert-- everyone gave a standing ovation at the end. Brooke and I sat.

my favorites!

one time kate & daphne & i went to the F.O.E. in south omaha for a songwriter's night. we drove our white Ford F-150. lou & company were there, as well. it was a really, really strange venue. lots of older people smoking a lot (fog machine) and drinking a lot. i heard the name "tom collins" for the first time that night. good ole daphne & her knowledge of strange beverages. anyhow, on our way home we were rocking out to kelly clarkson's "miss independent". i know. i know. but once you know the rules, you can break them. this is how i justify my love LOVE for throw-away pop music.

here's a picture of kelly clarkson & patty griffin...perfect for proving my point.

happy may day

today i talked to daphne. she made me laugh when she told me about may day celebrations in her mind: little girls in puffy-sleeved dresses running around with long ribbons, tying them around a pole. hmm. i didn't know this one. i remember filling little baskets with stickers, popcorn, candy, & a flower, placing the basket on my friends' front step, ringing the doorbell, & then running away. did you do this? or tie ribbons around poles?

if it weren't for distance, i'd do either one of those with any one of you. the ribbon thing would be really funny.
