for a fabulous surprise, my mom came over this morning for coffee (not unusual) and with her came a new sewing machine for me! (new to me at least). She had found it at a garage sale this fall for $15 and had it "overhauled" at one of the repair shops in Benson.
Thus, unlike Cory who is much more industrious than I and repaired her machine in a feat of genius, I am able to start fumbling around and figuring out to sew immediately! (minus my work schedule :-). I am so happy. From now on you guys can all be anticipating sewn pot-holders and coasters and matching appliance cozies for your blenders and toasters and electric can openers as well as oven mits and christmas ornaments and... just kidding. It has however been my secret ambition to know how to sew by 30 - and now that is just a little more possible! yay.

I've been meaning to get "Sew U" by Wendy Mullin-- looks like a great sewing book that is accessible and helpful.

P.S. Your mom is great-- what a thoughtful gift!
su madre rocketh.
what's wrong with cozies?! i heart cozies!
enjoy your new adventure! my crafty dream is to learn to knit before i'm 30. we shall see.
oh man, when i was in el. school i took KNITTING LESSONS!! ha! at verna's yarn shop... what a weird thing to do as a little kid.
you are lucky alicia, yours came with a manual! man, old sewing machines are the best, but even better with a manual.
maybe alicia could use what's in the photo in this post to create the what's in the photo in the next post!!
Daphne - it might be awhile 'till I post again. :-)
hehe...so hard at your sewing work you don't have time to post, eh?
sew me one of daphne's moo-moo's with that fabric! i'll pay the $200 ticket.
it's true it is so voluminous it'll cost you $200 worth of cheap fabric.
What a great gift! I actually just borrowed a girlfriend's sewing machine to try my hand at it. It has also been my goal to try and sew before 30. I only have a year to get my rear in gear :)
how's the sewing going?
i got a new machine this summer & started working on some projects right away. FUN! WAY MORE FUN than my jr. high sewing class. mrs. backlund gave me an 'A' for trying so hard to sew that little white duck together. looked like a mangled, furry marshmallow by the time i was done.
so far, no marshmallows this year.
