down with O.C.B.?

tonight we took the kids to old country buffet for my dad's 55th birthday dinner celebration. the same OCB we used to go to after church during my junior high/senior high years. i hated it then, as i hated most foods that weren't spaghetti, waffles, or PBJ-ish. the things i used to like there were very, very flavor-hidden: white fish covered in butter/pepper, macaroni & cheese, & the cinnamon rolls. sometimes i would try the green beans. and when i went up to the buffet to get some food tonight, i was laughing out loud: the foods offered looks the same, they smell the same, they're in the same spot on the buffet table, and i had the same apprehension about slopping any particular item on my plate: this WILL make me feel sick later.

This brought back a memory. My brother and I were in our early grade school years, from a small town and had never been to a buffet restaurant before. I remember, on a visit to my Grandparents house in Mason City, Iowa, visiting the Ponderosa. I remember thinking to myself that it had to be the nicest restaurant that existed. I felt like it must be very, very expensive. You could get as much pudding as you liked. Vats of pudding just sitting there on the buffet. Vanilla and Chocolate. Wow. Pondersosa.

i know! that's the thing for my little nephews: self-serve ice cream! cookies! cakes! hi-c fruit punch! balloons & people dressed up as the OCB bumble bee.

when we were driving home last night, both of the boys said, "aunt caron, my stomach hurts". :)

down with OCB? every last homey.
