Hope you all don't mind a few thoughts on parenting...
Yesterday, while at the zoo, we saw a family with 2 little boys about 3 and 6 (a bit older than our Linus). The boys (who were both wearing plastic sandels) were walking towards a very shallow, very clean, very small puddle on the cement and the mother rushed over and swooped them out of the way and in a very stearn voice said: "There is no reason you need to walk through that puddle!" A meek dad behind them sort of nodded in agreement and weakly pushed a hand towards the boys to move them even further out of the way.
I thought to myself, I've felt that feeling in my heart before when Linus is rolling in the mud or tracking sandbox sand thru the kitchen. But, Kyle and I agreed, it is good to let boys walk thru puddles and let them do "boy things" even if it is a little inconvenient.
Later that day, we found a small waterfall and let Linus walk thru it in his leather sandles (the ones Caron gave us!) and get really, really wet.

right on, cheryl! let's start a bigger crusade. something i like to refer to as: "life isn't supposed to be starbucks." every moment isn't supposed to be ethereal and soothing. there are puddles and spills and times that just about break you. but the thing is: they don't! so it's something like i just had a baby five weeks ago (is that it!) and i'm not supposed to be back to my C cups. or i have a toddler and there are going to be toys and books and crumbs around the house. or you just got married and you're still trying to get a grip on how to be your own self and be one with your mate. it's that we're supposed to try new things. we're supposed to be curious and interested in what it might feel like to splash around in a little puddle. or we're supposed be sweaty in the summertime. we're expected to wonder, observe, struggle, wiggle, wonder, ALWAYS. monotone is not the voice of our creator. it's not our language. we're not numb.
thank you for the reminder. thank you for your own voice. ALWAYS post about parenting. these things always go beyond.
that is refreshing. way to be. i'm sure linus will appreciate it...now and in the future.
